Home Guard grenade.
WW2 Home Guard extemporised grenade. Designed by Lt.Col.Williams Ellis of the 1st Btn. Merioneth Home Guard the grenade consisted of a rough casting sealed by a wooden plug similar in design and construction to the WW1 Battye bomb. Filled with black powder and intiated by a piece of Bickford cord the grenade could be used as a practice or as a replacement H.E.Fragmentation grenade in place of the No.36 which was in short supply when this grenade was designed. In good condition complete with wooden sealing plug, comes with copy letter from the Imperial War Museum confirming the identification.
