Forestry Commission - Women's Forestry Service.
Chrome and enamel pinback badge for the Women's Forestry Service of the Forestry Commission manufactured by H.W.Miller of Birmingham. The W.F.S. was initially established in 1917 and fulfilled the role that became the Timber Corps . This was a similar story for WW2 when the Forestry Commission started recruiting women for the timber industry from 1940, once again their recruits were largely subsumed by the Timber Corps in 1942.
