Early Fire Guard armband.
Heavy duty cotton armband with the word ' FIRE ' stitched on in individual letters closed with a stainless roller buckle. This armband comes from the period in 1940 when volunteers came forward for fire prevention duties, those not under direct warden or fire brigade control often sourced their own armbands via commercial sources, this is one example. They were rendered obsolete by the provision of the Fire Guard armband.
This example in good used, slightly grubby condition.
