An above average example of the General Civilian Respirator. Designed in 1935 and becoming available the following year, the Government targeted the production and issue of 38 million. This example, produced in August 1939 by the Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Company is a size ' Medium ' and is fitted with the ' Contex ' pre-filter which was introduced in 1940 in order to increase protection against arsenical gases. Good, clean and supple condition contained in it's original, lightly marked boxed with the owner's name pencilled to the lid.
