Aeronautical Inspection Directorate Lapel Badge.
Formed during WW1 the Aeronautical Inspection Directorate was established to provide detailed inspection of all materials, the manufacturing process to which they were subjected, and the assembly of various parts into component units and of the erection of the aircraft, engines etc on behalf of the Air Board. During WW2 the AID grew exponentially taking on the inspection of all aspects of aviation from construction to repair on behalf of the Ministry of Aircraft Production. This small ( 15mm ) gilt and enamel, pin back lapel badge was worn by members of the AID staff. Manufacturer marked ' Roden ' to the reverse, in good used condition with some light marking.
