Gas Identification Officer Helmet.
Introduced in 1944 to indicate the specialist qualification of GIO who were to indicate the ' Designation and Identification of War Gases ', many of whom were qualified chemists. They were to be identified by specialist badges and by the provision of a yellow painted helmet. This example, originally a black painted MkII has been hand-painted in yellow with stencilled ' GIO ' in black to front and rear. Helmet has a size 7, MkII liner by Briggs Motor Bodies. In good, used condition with the usual chips and abrasions with some loss of stencilling.
