Originally created by the Admiralty in 1935 as the RN Wireless Auxiliary Reserve to organise those in the the Naval reserves who specialised in wireless operation. Often amateur radio hams, members received no uniform but were to hold themselves ready for mobilisation in the event of war. Regularised in early 1939 and subsequently renamed RNVWR this lapel badge was issued shortly before . Numbered and manufacturer marked ' Kenning & Son, London ' and good used condition. Uncommon.
