2nd Phase County of London Home Guard Battledress.
'49 Pat. Battledress Blouse worn by a member of the 11th County of London ( Poplar ) Battalion Home Guard during the Second Phase of the Home Guard. Faced with growing military uncertainty and the start of the Cold War in 1952 the Home Guard was reconstituted. Based on previous wartime experience local battalions were raised in skeleton form with training based on more modern arms. This uniform, although missing it's issue label would appear to have been manufactured in 1953 as indicated by the inspection marks. 2nd Phase embroidered Home Guard shoulder titles to both arms with the distinctive, rubber backed felt area titles below. Tunic is in excellent condition with a smattering of moth holes, none of which are too large and do not detract from the appearance. Far less commonly encountered than its wartime predecessor, scarce.
