Home Guard Exercise Maps and Paperwork 1943.
Grouping of maps and paperwork pack for Exercise ' Mercury ' in May 1943 centred on Biggin Hill and designed to test the defence of the airfield. Four Home guard battalions were involved the 9th and 59th Surrey battalions and the 20th, 51st and 57th Kent battalions . Information is contained in a fold out folder with miniature map showing the 57th battalion Company positions which appear to be the defending forces. Further general and specific information is provided from equipment required to the location of battalion headquarters. The folder is accompanied by a large scale map of the Biggin Hill area contained in a cover with residual chinagraph markings to the acetate sheet. Further notes also accompany the group. Unusual.
