Northumberland Home Guard Area Insignia.
Printed, probably by Calico Printers Ltd., this sign was used by Northumbrian Home Guard units. Featuring the County Council's arms, referred to as St.Oswald's Shield after the first Christian king of Northumberland. Distinct from later badges which had eight red and yellow vertical stripes this example has six bars and is typical of that worn during the War. Good, used condition with clear evidence of having been removed from a uniform.
