Home Guard Cape.
A scarce example of the Home Guard cape. Designed specifically for the HG to overcome a shortage of Army greatcoats, the cape was introduced at the end of 1940. It is unclear when they ceased to be issued but they were not generally popular and quickly fell out of favour when greatcoats became more plentiful.
Produced in khaki serge with a half lined interior with two internal pockets and two built-in shoulder harness cloth straps which formed the means of wearing. Five button closure with hook and eye to collar. Size ' Medium ' with a December 1940 date stamp with the label indicating manufacture by ' Raper & Bainbridge '. In generally excellent condition with some minor moth nibbles and tracks and one small area of damage to the inner edge seam
