Home Guard Improvised Grenade.
WW2 Home Guard extemporised grenade. Designed by Lt.Col.Williams Ellis of the 1st Btn. Merioneth Home Guard the grenade consisted of a rough casting sealed by a wooden plug, similar in design and construction to the WW1 Battye bomb. Filled with black powder and intiated by a piece of Bickford cord the grenade could be used as a practice or as a replacement H.E.Fragmentation grenade in place of the No.36, which was in short supply when this grenade was designed. In good condition complete with wooden sealing plug. Scarce.
