MTC Side Cap
A scarce example of the side cap worn by volunteers of the the Mechanised Transport Corps. Probably supplied by the official uniform supplier to the MTC, Lillywhites of Piccadilly and Knightsbridge but no label present. Fine serge body with blue piping to crown and skirt, bronzed MTC pin back cap badge and bronzed G.S. buttons. Glazed cotton lining with plush headband.
Initially formed as the MTTC in 1939 to ' train officers for various women's organisations and render any aid '. This aid was largely centred on driving and this uniformed, voluntary Corps set about aiding the various civil defence services. Following service in France the Corps was renamed the MTC in 1940.
