3rd Inverness-shire (Newfoundland) Battalion HG badge.
White metal, lapel style badge, for the Newfoundland Forestry Unit as worn by the 3rd Invernessshire (Newfoundland) Battalion Home Guard. This unit was made up of civilian forestry workers who arrived in Britain from Newfoundland in 1939 in order to help with the massive need for timber in wartime. By 1942 they were concentrated around Inverness where they formed a HG battalion and were granted permission to wear their lapel badge as a capbadge depicting a Newfoundland caribou. In good condition, patinated overall, manufacturer marked ' J.R.Gaunt, London '. Scarce.
