Emergency Hospital Scheme Stretcher Bearer.

White metal and enamel for a volunteer stretcher bearer recruited in the Emergency Hospital Scheme. Anticipating a need for increased numbers of stretcher bearers, hospitals were given permission to recruit volunteers. Sanctioned in April 1940, volunteers were issued with overalls and a year later badges and numbered 25,000 by the end of the War. Half moon lapel fitting to reverse, manufacturer marked ' H.W.M.' indicating manufacturer by Millers. Good, used condition.
