A difficult to find shelter accessory , the rat-tailed, rough cast spanner supplied with the Anderson shelter in kit form. One end of the spanner was used as a jemmy to align the holes in the shelter before insertion of the bolts. Printed Lincoln 'Imp' introduced from mid-1941 for wear by all of the Lincolnshire Home Guard battalions. With a design based on a mediaeval sculpture commemorating the legend of the construction of Lincoln cathedral this badge was worn in place of the more usual battalion numbers and letters. These compact cookers were recommended for refuge rooms and shelters and is marked ' convenient for emergencies in the household '.
