ARP clasp knife.
1939 ARP clasp knife by George Gill & Sons, Sheffield. Single bladed stainless steel bodied clasp knife with spike and lanyard ring. Clearly manufacturer marked and dated to body and blade. Blade stained but retains it's full shape, spike similarly patinated. Good, clean example of the second of the three patterns of ARP knives. read more

Emergency Relief Organisation badge.
Celluloid and tin pinback badge for the Emergency Relief Organisation. This was the name for most of the post-raid services including rest centres and air raid welfare in Scotland. From December 1940 the various post-raid organisations were brought under the ERO banner and badges issued. In good overall condition with some fading. read more
Auxiliary Unit Pattern Knife.
Although at first glance this is a purely commercial sheath knife, this pattern of knife has strong connections with the Auxiliary Units. Recorded examples of actual use with the Auxiliaries concentrate in the South West, Dorset, Cornwall etc. This particular example was acquired in Kingsbridge, Devon but unfortunately does not have any direct attribution to a specific unit. Started in 1940, the Growmore Campaign was one of the first practical responses to the growing need for food made evident by wartime demands. The campaign continued alongside the Dig for Victory campaign and this 1942 leaflet is evidence of this dealing with the pests and diseases likely to be encountered in the vegetable garden and giving advice on recognition and elimination of these blights.... read more
